The Rain is Coming - Lapidus Workshop

We have a special Lapidus workshop on Sunday 19th November which will be jointly run by local writer Rommi Smith and composer Emily Levy.

The title “The Rain Is Coming” is from a song-cycle written by Rommi and Emily, which premiered at Stratford on Avon Music Festival in September. They worked in collaboration with singer Roderick Williams to create a new work in response to Schubert’s “Die Shone Mullerin”, focussing on the untold maid’s story and re-presenting the story from the maid’s perspective, “drawing out themes of new beginnings, self-discovery and embarking on new literal and emotional journeys.”

Rommi said they wanted to do something in the workshop “which explores not only our piece and processes in creating the work, but facilitates participants to consider and respond to some of the themes in the original Schubert cycle. The focus of the workshop could be an exploration of voices, wellbeing, self-discovery and literal or emotional journeys.”

The workshop will be at Woodhouse Community Centre, from 11.30 to 4 p.m. As usual, refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own lunch or something to share in the break. There’ll be a £5/£10 (Lapidus members/non members) charge for the day to cover our costs.

Woodhouse Community centre is at 197 Woodhouse Street, Leeds, LS6 2NY. It’s close to Hyde Park Corner, and if you’re coming by bus from Leeds City Centre you can a variety of buses that go up Headingley Lane – 1, 6, 28, 97, for instance – get off at Hyde Park Corner and take a right down Woodhouse Street – the Community Centre is about 300 yards down on your right.
